The Action Stage of getting Richer
This is the conclusion of my three part series on ‘The Science of Getting Rich’ by Wallace D Wattles. In Part 1, we looked at the blockages you may face mentally towards getting richer. During Part 2, we looked at the mental outlook we need to develop to get richer, steps 1-7. In Part 3, we will be looking at the action stage we must now implement in our quest for getting richer, steps 8-11.
Step 8 – Define Goals- You must know what you want and State it Clearly!
‘If you were going to send a wireless message to a friend, you would not send the letters of the alphabet in their order, and let him construct the message for himself; nor would you take words at random from the dictionary. You would send a coherent sentence; one which meant something. When you try to impress your wants upon Substance, remember that it must be done by a coherent statement; you must know what you want, and be definite. You can never get rich, or start the creative power into action, by sending out unformed longings and vague desires.‘ – Wallace D Wattles
How many of us actually know what we truly want from life? We must be completely certain of the goals that we have. How can we create the life we really want when we are not even certain about the things we hope to achieve? Be definite about your goals and write down the things you want to achieve in life. This is a very crucial part of this process, you must be sure of and certain of the goals you are working towards. Vague ideas do not cut it! After writing down your goals, begin to think about your goals, utilise your imagination when doing this and focus your mind upon them. Imagine events working out the way you want them to work out and expect only the best outcomes! Push out any doubts you may have and believe in endless possibilities. Have faith in yourself.
Step 9 – Developing Will Power – Management of Thoughts and Feelings
‘When you know what to think and do, then you must use your will to compel yourself to think and do the right things. That is the legitimate use of the will in getting what you want—to use it in holding yourself to the right course. Use your will to keep yourself thinking and acting in the Certain Way.‘ – Wallace D Wattles
Developing will power is developing our ability to become highly aware of our thoughts and feelings. If we don’t carefully manage our thoughts and feelings. We will develop destructive beliefs about life and our futures which will hinder our development towards becoming richer and living a better life. Developing our will power is developing our ability to influence the subconscious mind with new belief systems that serve us, not hinder us. Using our willpower can encourage us to think for ourselves and not allow other people to think for us. We can learn to generate our own thoughts about the future, ourselves and the lives we wish to live. You must be not at the mercy of other peoples opinions. We must keep our conscious minds thinking the way we want them to think, and we must learn to feel the way in which we wish to feel.
As mentioned previously, we must match our thoughts with deep feelings of gratitude to create new subconscious beliefs. Will power is a form of cultivating and disciplining our mind to think good things and to feel good feelings. Will power keeps us on the right path when obstacles inevitably reveal themselves. Life is never plain sailing, we must be equipped when any obstacles arise. We must be equipped, so that we may continue on the path to greatness.
Step 10 – Importance of Action – Acting in the moment and Doing
‘Whatever your action is to be, it is evident that you must act NOW. You cannot act in the past, and it is essential to the clearness of your mental vision that you dismiss the past from your mind.‘ – Wallace D Wattles
A lot of modern day Law of attraction advice seems to teach us that action isn’t overly important. We live in a world of creative thought, but we must not forget we also live in a world of physical matter. Sitting around all day and meditating is not enough to achieve our goals, we must Act and Act NOW! Action is a fundamental part of the process.
If we have an idea to be implemented or a pressing concern that needs action, we must get into the habit of doing it today and not tomorrow. Wattles makes it clear that even the smallest most mundane actions might be the gateway to bigger opportunities. This is not just a case of working hard for the sake of working hard either, as some may often claim is the key to success. We are looking to take inspired and efficient action that is necessary, not working for the sake of working.
Step 11 – Having Faith – Deep Belief and Trust that we deserve great things
‘Also, faith is born of gratitude. The grateful mind continually expects good things, and expectation becomes faith. The reaction of gratitude upon one’s own mind produces faith; and every outgoing wave of grateful thanksgiving increases faith.’ – Wallace D Wattles
Faith is the culmination of all the other steps, if we develop our ability to think creatively, connect with Spirit, feel grateful, clearly define our desires/goals and follow these steps with a definite plan of action. We will begin to lead a life filled with great expectancy of the best things happening to us. This is the true nature of having faith, being guided from a place of creativity, positivity, optimism and loving gratitude. Living without faith is to live in a state of disbelief and hopelessness, if we live without faith, we are living in a state of fear and lack of optimism.
This is the very core of developing a rich mindset, the rich mindset being a state of mind that is filled with faith and expects the best for ourselves, the world and others around us. Once we have developed a faith mindset and start acting in a ‘Certain way’, we are sure to be one step closer to being richer financially in ways we never imagined were possible. We can only conclude that the overall method which Wattles is conveying here is one of holding strong faith and trust that whatever we wish to achieve, will be achieved.
I hope I have clearly conveyed Wattles message, we must see this as a process of ‘As within, so without’. If we develop our inner being, our external circumstances will begin to reflect our inner belief systems. This is the real key to becoming richer financially and living a highly abundant life. Once we understand the importance of developing our inner selves (subconscious minds), we can gain the faith we need to work towards a prosperous life.
I have read many wealth creation books, but this book stands out as the most simple and essential book to have in your collection if getting rich is your ambition. Even if making more money isn’t your main objective, this book could also apply to any other area of self improvement. The fundamental message of this book lays in the development of our inner selves as the steady foundation we build upon. I am yet to read a more simple and straightforward book regarding wealth creation. Many self help books make simple matters appear to be overly complex. We don’t need complexity on our journey, we need simple methods that work. I will leave you with another quote from Wattles himself, where he asserts the very same and I find it difficult to disagree with him!
‘Another thing. We assert that this book gives in detail the principles of the science of getting rich; and if that is true, you do not need to read any other book upon the subject. No man has yet formulated a briefer or less complex “system” than the one set forth herein; it has been stripped of all non-essentials. When you commence on this, lay all others aside; put them out of your mind altogether.‘ – Wallace D Wattles
